As a Research University, UTM emphasizes community engagement (CE) as a way of bringing innovations from research output for the benefit of local and regional communities. UTM strongly believe output from experts and researchers who can develop critical information such as social well-being, education, health, poverty, environment, entrepreneurship and technology are key areas of concern that can give impact to the development of communities.
As such, community engagement in UTM is institutionalized within the University Transformation Plan which is the fourth strategic thrusts of UTM strategy. An important element of institutionalising CE within a research university is to be able to provide visibility and promote our exemplary engagement initiatives that cut across research, education and service. With this in mind, engagement and outreach is part of the university’s social responsibility and commitment.
The CTC team actively seeks out partnership opportunities with community organizations, not-for-profits and other educational institutions. We build on existing relationships, create new partnershipsns and endeavor to enhance the university’s role in the community. We also lead institutional events and support our faculties and other units in their community outreach activities.
